I want to put a dent in the universe. - Steve Jobs

The first man gets the oyster, the second man gets the shell. 카네기

While the law of competition may be sometimes hard for the individual, it is best for the race, because it ensures the survival of the fittest in every department.

As I grow older, I pay less attention to what men say. I just watch what they do.

No man will make a great leader who wants to do it all himself or get all the credit for doing it.

The secret of success lies not in doing your own work, but in recognizing the right man to do it.

You must capture and keep the heart of the original and supremely able man before his brain can do its best.

Here lies a man who knew how to enlist the service of better men than himself. 묘비명

나는 증기기관에 대해서 아무런 지식도 없다. 그러나 그보다 훨씬 복잡한 기계인 인간을 알려고 노력했다.

To die rich is to die disgraced.

I would as soon leave my son a curse as the almighty dollar.

Surplus wealth is a sacred trust which its possessor is bound to administer in his lifetime for the good of the community.

There is no class so pitiably wretched as that which possesses money and nothing else.

No man can become rich without himself enriching others.

Think of yourself as on the threshold of unparalleled success. A whole, clear glorious life lies before you. Achieve! Achieve!

Do not look for approval except for the consciousness of doing your best.

Concentrate your energies, your thoughts and your capital. The wise man puts all his eggs in one basket and watches the basket.

I believe the true road to preeminent success in any line is to make yourself master in that line. I have no faith in the policy of scattering one's resources, and in my experience I have rarely if ever met a man who achieved preeminence in money making - certainly never one in manufacturing - who was interested in many concerns.

Do your duty and a little more and the future will take care of itself.

록펠러

Don't be afraid to give up the good to go for the great.

I have no use for men who fail. The cause of their failure is no business of mine, but I want successful men as my associates.

I would rather earn 1% of a 100 people's efforts than 100% of my own efforts.

Good leadership consists of showing average people how to do the work of superior people.

The ability to deal with people is as purchasable a commodity as sugar or coffee and I will pay more for that ability than for any other under the sun.

A friendship founded on business is better that a business founded on friendship.

If you want to succeed, you should strike out on new paths, rather than travel the worn paths of accepted success.

The secret of success is to do the common things uncommonly well.

I do not think that there is any other quality so essential to success of any kind as the quality of perseverance. It overcome almost everything, even nature.

The person who starts out simply with the idea of getting rich won't succeed; you must have a larger ambition.

Next to doing the right thing, the most important thing is to let people know you are doing the right thing.

Charity is injurious unless it helps the recipient to become independent of it.

As I study wealthy men, I can see but one way in which they can secure a real equivalent for money spent, and that is to cultivate a taste for giving where the money may produce an effect, which will be a lasting gratification.

Henry Ford

Coming together is a beginning; keeping together is progress; working together is success.

Nothing is particularly hard if you divide it into small job.

Anymore who stops learning is old, whether at twenty or eighty. Anyone who keeps learning stays young. The greatest thing in life is to keep your mind young.

Don't find fault, find a remedy.

When everything seems to be going against you, remember that the airplane takes off against the wind, not with it.

Money doesn't change men, it merely unmasks them. If a man is naturally selfish or arrogant or greedy, the money brings that out, that's all.

Paying attention to simple little things that most men neglect makes a few men rich.

Life is a series of experiences, each one of which makes us bigger, even though sometimes it is hard to realize this. For the world was built to develop character, and we must learn that the setbacks and grieves which we endure help us in our marching onward.

There are two fools in this world. One is the millionaire, who thinks that by hoarding money he can somehow accumulate real power, and the other is the penniless reformer who thinks that if only he can take the money from one class and give it to another, all the world's ills will be cured.

I don't know much about history, and I wouldn't give a nickel for all the history in the world. History is more or less bunk. It is tradition. We want to live in the present, and the only history that is worth a tinker's damn is the history we make today.

An idealist is a person who helps other people to be prosperous.

A business that makes nothing but money is a poor business.

The man who will use his skill and constructive imagination to see how much he can give for a dollar, instead of how little he can give for a dollar, is bound to succeed.

If money is your hope for independence you will never have it. The only real security that a man will have in this world is a reserve of knowledge, experience, and ability.

Failure is simply the opportunity to begin again, this time more intelligently.

Bill Gates

People always fear change. People feared electricity when it was invented, didn't they? People feared coal, they feared gas-powered engines. There will always be ignorance, and ignorance leads to fear. But with time, people will come to accept their silicon masters.

I'm a great believer that any tool that enhances communication has profound effects in terms of how people can learn from each other, and how they can achieve the kind of freedoms that they're interested in.

The vision is really about empowering workers, giving them all the information about what's going on so they can do a lot more than they've done in the past.

If you get health, then you have opportunity for literacy. Health first, then literacy. Once you have literacy, then you have a chance to bring in the new tools of communication. Let people reach out and have success to the latest advances.

The two areas that are changing are information technology and medical technology. Those are the things that the world will be very different 20 years from now than it is today.

I don't think there's anything unique about human intelligence. All the neurons in the brain that make up perceptions and emotions operate in a binary fashion.

Your most unhappy customers are your greatest source of learning.

The first rule of any technology used in a business is that automation applied to an efficient operation will magnify the efficiency. The second is that automation applied to an inefficient operation will magnify the inefficiency.

Success is a lousy teacher. It seduces smart people into thinking they can't lose.

Capitalism is this wonderful thing that motivates people, it causes wonderful inventions to be done. But in this area of diseases of the world at large, it's really let us down.

Life is not fair. Get used to it.

Larry Page, Sergey Brin

Obviously everyone wants to be successful, but I want to be looked back on as being very innovative, very trusted and ethical and ultimately making a big difference in the world. SB

We don't have as many managers as we should, but we would rather have too few than too many. LP

If you have a product that's really gaining a lot of usage, then it's probably a good idea. LP

Jack Welch

The game is going to change, and change dramatically.

We want to be a company that is constantly renewing itself, shedding the past, adapting to change.

Strong managers who make tough decisions to cut jobs provide the only true job security in today's world. Weak managers are the problem. Weak managers destroy jobs.

Just as surely as speed flows from simplicity, simplicity is grounded in self-confidence.

One concept we have in this company's culture is the idea of setting the bar far beyond what you think is realistic.

Focus on a few key objectives. I only have three things to do. I have to choose the right people, allocate the right number of dollars, and transmit ideas from one division to another with the speed of light. So I'm really in the business of being the gatekeeper and the transmitter of ideas.

The way to harness the power of these people is not to protect them, but to turn them loose, and get the management layers off their backs, the bureaucratic shackles off their feet and the functional barriers out of their way.

It's the ability to dream that we have to bring out in people in the company.

Business is all about capturing intellect from every person. The more people you can capture it from, the better the intellect.

Donald Trump

It's tangible, it's solid, it's beautiful. It's artistic, from my standpoint, and I just love real estate.

Picasso obviously viewed his art as a business, which it was. I view my business as an art, which it is. You should view your work that way too.

What separates the winners from the losers is how a person reacts to each new twist of fate.

Part of being a winner is knowing when enough is enough. Sometimes you have to give up the fight and walk away, and move on to something that's more productive.

I like thinking big. If you're going to be thinking anything, you might as well think big.

Don't be afraid of being unique. It's like being afraid of your best self.

Andy Grove

Success breeds complacency. Complacency breeds failure. Only the paranoid survive.

A corporation is a living organism; it has to continue to shed its skin. Methods have to change. Focus has to change. Values have to change. The sum total of those changes is transformation.

You have to pretend you're 100 % sure. You have to take action; you can't hesitate or hedge your bets. Anything less will condemn your efforts to failure.

People who have no emotional stake in a decision can see what needs to be done sooner.

How well we communicate is determined not by how well we say things but by how well we are understood.

Ray Kroc

If you do it first class and you don't compromise values, and you don't compromise quality, and you don't compromise service, and you don't compromise cleanliness, then everybody else who is the competitor has got to play catch-up.

The definition of salesmanship is the gentle art of letting the customer have it your way.

It's easy to have principles when you're rich. The important thing is to have principles when you're poor.

Howard Schultz

Great brands aren't built on ads or promotions.

Stay humble. There is no room for arrogance.

We have to be careful not to let our values be compromised by an ambition to grow.

The art of leadership is making sure we don't allow the scale and size of the company to change the methodology of how we conduct ourselves.

Treat people like family and they will be loyal and give their all. Stand by people, and they will stand by you.

Being a great leader means finding the balance between celebrating success and not embracing the status quo. Being a great leader also means identifying a path we need to go down and creating enough confidence in our people so they follow it and don't veer off course because it's an easier route to go.

I tried to appeal to their sensibility about the company. Hire people who have skills and experiences and perhaps competencies that are different than your own, and don't be afraid to change that mix as long as there's common goal and everyone leaves their ego at the door.

Have the courage to dream big and most importantly don't allow anyone to tell you or convince you that your dreams can't come true. There are so many people out there who are older than a college student who for the last ten or twenty years are bitter and angry at the world or others and at the end of the day what they are really angry at is themselves because they did not follow their dreams and they sacrificed and they settled and they woke up one day and they realized their life was about mediocrity.

Recognize the skills and traits you don't possess, and hire people who have them.

Michael Dell

The idea of being all things to all people is a thing of the past.

Our success is due, in part, not to just an ability but a willingness to look at things differently.

On ethical issues, one strike and you're out.

You are always better off when you hire people better than yourself.

Just work to understand the world around you. Read books. Read websites. Read other people then build a vision of how it could all be better.

Successful people are always looking for opportunities to help others. Unsuccessful people are always asking: what's in it for me?

Don't be the smartest person in the room - and if you are, I suggest you invite smarter people or find a different room.

You are free to choose, and you are free to succeed. It just takes hard work and a dream.

Sam Walton

Swim upstream. Go the other way. Ignore the conventional wisdom.

I had to pick myself up and get on with it, do it all over again, only even better this time.

Capital isn't scarce; vision is.

High expectations are the key to everything.

Outstanding leaders go out of their way to boost the self-esteem of their personnel. If people believe in themselves, it's amazing what they can accomplish.

Appreciate everything your associates do for the business. Nothing else can quite substitute for a few well-chosen well-timed, sincere words for praise. They're absolutely free and worth a fortune.

Good management is going to start listening to the ideas of these line soldiers, pooling these ideas and disseminating them around their organizations so people can act on them.

Steve Jobs

Expose yourself to the best things humans have done and then try to bring those things into what you are doing.

Creativity is just connecting things. When you ask creative people how they did something, they feel a little guilty because they didn't really do it, they just saw something. It seemed obvious to them after a while.

Innovation distinguishes between a leader and a follower.

Sometimes when you innovate, you make mistakes. It is best to admit them quickly, and get on with improving your other innovations.

Design is not just what it look like and feels like. Design is how it works.

I need a purpose to make me go.

Walt Disney

We are not trying to entertain the critics. I'll take my chances with the public.

Of all of our inventions for mass communication, pictures still speak the most universally understood language.

The way to get started is to quit talking and begin doing.

We keep moving forward, opening new doors, and doing new things, because we're curious and curiosity keeps leading us down new paths.

I always like to look on the optimistic side of life, but I am realistic enough to know that life is a complex matter.

A person should set his goals as early as he can and devote all his energy and talent to getting there. With enough effort, he may achieve it. Or he may find something that is even more rewarding. But in the end, no matter what the outcome, he will know he has been alive.

Warren Buffett

In the short run, the market is a voting machine. In the long run, it's a weighing machine.

A public-opinion poll is no substitute for thought.

For some reason people take their cues from price action rather than from values. Price is what you pay. Value is what you get.

Chain of habit are too light to be felt until they are too heavy to be broken.

You should invest in a business that even a fool can run, because someday a fool will.

The first rule is not to lose. The second rule is not to forget the first rule.

Occasional outbreaks of those two super-contagious diseases, fear and greed, will forever occur in the investment community. The timing of these epidemics is equally unpredictable, both as to duration and degree. Therefore we never try to anticipate the arrival or departure of either. We simply attempt to be fearful when others are greedy and to be greedy only when others are fearful.

Risk comes from not knowing what you're doing.

It takes 20 years to build a reputation and five minutes to ruin it. If you think about that, you'll do things differently.

Diversification may preserve wealth, but concentration builds wealth.
